This time it’ll be okay
Laika for Freedom and Truth
Blindfolded, beaten and tortured for 30 hours by professionals who knew how to inflict pain without leaving marks. That’s what happened to Patrick George Zaki, an Egyptian rights activist studying in Italy, according to his lawyer. Patrick has been arrested on his return to Cairo, in a case that echos the murder of the Italian Cambridge student Giulio Regeni, whose brutally mutilated body was found on the outskirts of Cairo four years ago.
And it’s Giulio who slides his arms around Patrick from behind and whispers in his ear “Stavolta andrà tutto bene — This time it’ll be okay,” in the touching street art work by the Italian “billposter” Laika, in Rome, outside the Egypt Embassy. A cry of hope for both guys, one about freedom and the other about truth.
