Human Edition
A project by Kayla Arena and Toby Barron
Edward Theodore Gein, better known as Ed Gein, is one of the most popular serial killer ever lived. His gruesome crimes gained worldwide notoriety and inspired stories, books and movies like Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock — based on Robert Bloch’s powerful 1959 book —, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Silence of the Lambs.
Ed was born in August 1906, in Wisconsin, and died in July 1984, but even today his life is food for thought for Horror / Thriller enthusiasts and source of inspiration for artists, authors and creative minds like Kayla Arena and her partner Toby Barron. By using latex and silicone, the two put their SPFX film experience together to create suggestive horrific creations that look like they where created directly by Ed himself. An example of this can be their Converse All stars Human edition, created using latex skins and faces, hand sewn together with love and spooky thoughts. The latex is then painted and sealed with silicone to ensure longer life of latex and is very easy to wipe clean.
