Mandala Visions

about James Brunt

Just by using the natural materials he finds in forests, parks, and beaches near his home in Yorkshire, England, James Brunt let his mandala visions run riot. It’s a form of land art, popularized and often associated with fellow Brit Andy Goldsworthy, involves detailed patterns, textures, and shapes formed using multiples of one kind of material. James collects twigs, rocks, and leaves and arranges them in mandala-like spirals and concentric circles. Once he’s done, he photographs his work to document it before nature takes hold of his materials, as in the case of Nizar Ali Badr.

James studied Fine Art at the Byam Shaw School of Art in London. After working for galleries and a long stint in Arts Development, he now lives and works with his family in Yorkshire. He also runs the arts organisation Responsible Fishing UK along with the “very lovely and super talented” Timm Cleasby.
