Emotional Self

about Jessica Tremp

There is a need in every human being, that of expressing itself and its abilities. As for Jessica Tremp, this meant to be hours locked away in her room scribbling on fresh notebooks. She has dabbled in quite a few things, but photography just seems to have stuck the most. It just linked arms with her one day and never let go: “When I was little I used to daydream about being a dancer, flying, speaking animal languages and that of the most dramatic actors’ body. With the click of a finger I’ve found a way to make these things come true.”

Though born in Perth, Australia in 1981, Jessica grew up in a Swiss village near Zurich before moving to Melbourne at the age of 18. She brought with her a love for theatrics, romanticism and nature and combines these with her passion for the art of photography. She often uses herself as a model and prefers an organic, spontaneous and naturally lit approach to her work, aiming to create an emotional authenticity rather than a literal accuracy.

Jessica is self-taught and draws inspiration from blues music, Italian food, a nature that seems to slip through our fingers, connection and disconnection, midnight snacks eaten alone, the animal kingdom, awkward social experiences and that deep covered up need to be cradled by something extraordinary. Her images have been featured in online and print magazines around the world.

“I’m not a very slick photographer. My style is much more raw and emotional. That appeals to certain people, but I know not to measure myself against big production commercial photographers. Sometimes I need to remind myself that different is a good thing.
