Pagan Poetry
about Agnieszka Osipa
Pedaling through the dark currents
I find an accurate copy
A blueprint of the pleasure
In me
Born in 1986 in Nowa Sarzyna, a small town in southeastern Poland, Agnieszka Osipa found an astonishing way to bring the delight and magic of her own inner world into the costume design to create real masterpieces. Drawing inspiration from music — dark folklore, ambient pagan, folk metal and the Ukrainian band Dakha Brakha —, painting and folklore from Eastern Europe, she always prefers to follow her own path, not tending to fill the requirements of any fashion style or direction. The countries she believes best interpret her work are from Russia and Norway.
“This is where I am from, and I feel that Slavic culture is often regarded as minor compared to other cultures of the world, I try to change that by showing how rich and inspiring it can be, when you really dig into it. I search legends, demonology, and fairy tales from the Eastern region of Europe and try to include the forms and symbols into what I make.”
Together with Photographer Marcin Nagraba, in 2015 Agnieszka created Pagan Poetry, a photo series closely associated with Slavic mythology.
