Poet of Humor

about Ernesto Cattoni

Journalist and cartoonist, Ernesto Cattoni is always known as the Poet of Humor “for the wise lightness of humorous solutions compared to the high-level topics he deals with”. In the ’50s, he worked in the Alfa Romeo Style Office for some time, where he designed the Alfa 33, Giulia and Alfetta cars. Later, he begins to draw humor in his free time and at night, bringing forward his works to the Europeo weekly magazine, which immediately welcomes him. Since then, he publishes over twelve thousand cartoons — mostly without words — and illustrations on the newspapers of half the world: Epoca, Paris Match, Corriere della Sera, Le Figaro, Tempo, Panorama, Humor Graphics, Jesus, La Settimana Enigmistica, etc.

Born in Milan, Italy, in 1936, Ernesto studied at the Art School of Lausanne. He has published 5 books of drawings, illustrated 12 children’s books, and more than 13,000 drawings for 63 newspapers. His drawings have been distributed since the 1960s by Disegnatori Riuniti of Cassio Morosetti. Ernesto still works and lives in Bergamo.
