Beat Photographer
about Russ Marshall
Russ Marshall’s freelance career took him from the streets of Detroit into the factories, jazz clubs, Tommy Hearns’ Kronk gym, Eastern Market, strip joints and corporate boardrooms, as a genuine beat photographer.
He served with the U.S. Navy from 1960-1964, walking with his camera from boot camp to duty stations in Florida, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Puerto Rico. He was there during the Cuban Missile Crisis Many giving related works and the lighter side of a bunch of 20 year old photographer sailors partying in the lab, on the beach, at USO events and on liberty trips to Jamaica, Haiti and San Juan. Enough places to be a genuine storyteller.
