Loops
Eleonora Roaro at Luisa Catucci Gallery
Whatever we plant in our subconscious mind
and nourish with repetition and emotion
will one day become a reality
By focusing on video and archaeology of cinema, Loops is an interesting solo show that underlines the performative aspects of Eleonora Roaro practice through the set up of repeated and obsessive actions that become metaphors for human limits. A selection of five years of works about repetition and the self-portrait in order to deconstruct the actions and reveal their mechanical, fictional and often funny dimensions.
Based in Milan, Eleonora often revisits ancient devices and iconographies to reflect on how technologies influence the way we see and shape our vision. Therefore display and duration are key elements, especially in video-art. Many projects are on loops, as she considers repetition not only a constitutive thing of life, both in biological, historical and existential terms, but also an important concept in media studies, as Lev Manovich states in his The Language of New Media.
