When nobody’s watching
about Sally Nixon
Sally Nixon loves drawing girls because they’re pretty and food because it’s the best. You’ll find a little of ’80s and ’90s in her illustrations, and it may be good for your heart if you’re a sensitive nostalgic soul. In April 2015, she started a project called 365 in which she had to create one illustration per day for a whole year. As it was not that easy to think of new ideas so frequently, she started to search for inspiration in her own life and simple routine moments that she’s going through.
Sally just wanted to show the natural side of women besides staged Instagram selfies, Snapchat filters, and all the other forms of social media that rule our world.
“They don’t have perfect bodies or perfect habits and that makes them relatable. The scenes I create around them are everyday places: a bathroom, a restaurant, a messy bedroom. However, my goal with each drawing is to elevate the seemingly mundane to something special”.
Sally graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where she lives and works, in 2013 with a BFA in illustration.
