Single Point

about Bernard Pras

The art by Bernard Pras is linked to a single amazing event. One day, a chemist explained to him that the cadmium’s red of paint tubes used by artists was the same one used to dye plastic basins. He then laid a red basin on a red-painted floor. Bernard was fascinated by the relation between the floor plan and the volume of the basin bound by color. The basin, at the same time, appeared and disappeared in this background color. He developed his work from there, from this experience.

Today he is the creator of impressive installations and assemblages of disparate objects and waste, which form beautiful paintings appearing through the principle of anamorphosis. His ephemeral creations being visible only from a single point of view. Bernard uses photography to capture his anamorphosis, which are often tributes to famous paintings, artists or public figures like Vincent van Gogh, Edvard Munch, Marilyn Monroe and Che Guevara.

Born in 1952, in Roumazières-Loubert, he lives and works in Montreuil, near Paris.
