Dutch Family

about Giovanni Dalessi

Inextricably linked with the upper segment of the Dutch realism, Giovanni Dalessi gets the subjects of his paintings from his vicinity. His own family, wife and five children are the inspiration for his work. However, he doesn’t paint them with the intention of displaying them as faithfully as possible.

Much more he paints the essence of everyday scenes, his work expresses love and security. The undefined spatiality, the cutting off of his scenes and above all the perspective, making his paintings strong and captivating.

Born in Eindhoven, Netherlands, in 1964, Giovanni plays with the plane, where there is hardly any hierarchy between foreground and background. The result is that his figures and scenes have a very strong expressive power. As a viewer you have only a focus on it and you will be shown by anything of the main theme.

His significant works are popular with a wide audience, since he knows how to put his own personal stamp on old themes such as portrait, landscape and still life, in order to distinguish himself from his colleagues.
